Abstract

Exposure to excessive noise is known to cause the hair cell damage in the organ of Corti. In order to investigate the morphology of the nuclei in the hair cells of the receptor organ of cochlea, cytological observation was carried out on the hair cells following exposure to 2KHz, 100dB for 48 hrs.
Results obtained were summerized as follows:
1. The significant changes in the receptor organ of Corti were mainly noted in the most outer and middle row of the outer hair cells on the lower of the third trun of cochlea.
2. Pycnotic nuclei, swollen nuclei, or karyolytic nuclei were mainly noted from the 9th section to the 10th section of the receptor organ of the Corti in the cochleogram.
